Who Are Yü Energy? | UK Business Energy Supplier Guide

About Yü Energy
Yü Energy is a Nottingham-based, business-only energy supplier founded by CEO Bobby Kalar, supplying UK businesses since 2014. Its parent company, Yü Group PLC, listed on London’s AIM market in March 2016 and has since grown from “Big Six” challenger into one of the fastest-growing suppliers in the UK commercial market — reporting revenue of approximately £405 million for the first half of 2026 alone, with around 153,000 meter points under supply and a forward contract book of £1.7 billion.
The proposition is distinctive in two ways. First, Yü Energy is a genuine multi-utility supplier: businesses can put electricity, gas and water on a single contract with one bill and one point of contact — still unusual in the UK market. Second, it supplies businesses only, with no domestic book, so its tariffs, billing systems and support teams are built around commercial customers rather than adapted from a domestic operation.
The group also runs its own metering business, Yü Smart, which installs and owns smart meters in-house rather than relying entirely on third-party metering agents — installations rose 27% in the first half of 2026, with around 55,000 meters now owned by the group. A long-term trading agreement with Shell underpins its wholesale hedging, giving a young supplier an unusually solid commodity backbone.
Customers range from SMEs through to larger names such as Bolton Wanderers FC and several UK universities.

What to Expect as a Business Customer
Security — Fixed Pricing
Yü Energy’s core products are fully fixed tariffs over 12, 24 or 36 months, covering both commodity and non-commodity costs — attractive at a time when network charges such as TNUoS have been rising sharply. Separate tariff structures exist for smaller businesses (up to roughly 50,000 kWh of electricity or 500,000 kWh of gas per year) and for larger consumers, who are quoted on a bespoke basis.
The Shell trading agreement matters here: it gives Yü Energy institutional-grade access to the wholesale market for hedging its customer book, which supports price stability across the contract term.
As with every UK supplier, business energy contracts have no cooling-off period once signed, and out-of-contract or deemed rates are substantially higher than contracted rates — renewal management matters as much with Yü Energy as anywhere else.
Transparency — Multi-Utility Billing
The headline convenience is consolidation: electricity, gas and water on one contract, one bill, and one support team. For multi-site or admin-light businesses this genuinely reduces overhead, and bundling can unlock discounts against single-fuel pricing.
Billing accuracy is helped by the in-house smart metering programme — actual half-hourly reads rather than estimates. Trustpilot feedback is majority positive (around 71% five-star), though a meaningful minority of reviews cite billing and contract-detail disputes, a pattern worth noting with any fast-growing supplier.
Convenience — Payments and Account Management
- Online account portal for bills, usage data and meter reads
- UK-based support team in Nottingham
- Smart meter installation through the group’s own Yü Smart engineers
- Water supply available in England and Scotland alongside energy
- VAT: 5% for qualifying micro-businesses, 20% standard rate otherwise
Environmental
- 100% renewable electricity as standard on business tariffs, backed by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs)
- Carbon-neutral gas options available
- Note for ESG reporting: REGO-backed supply is certificate-matched rather than sourced through direct PPAs with named generators — businesses needing audited provenance beyond REGOs should compare Good Energy or Ecotricity
Sector Fit Assessment
| Sector | Fit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hospitality | ★★★★☆ | Multi-utility bundling (including water) suits pubs, hotels and restaurants with all three supplies |
| Manufacturing | ★★★★☆ | Fully fixed pricing hedges network-charge volatility; larger plants get bespoke quotes |
| Retail | ★★★★☆ | Single bill across utilities reduces admin for chains and franchises |
| Healthcare | ★★★★☆ | Water + energy consolidation is useful for care homes and clinics |
| Education | ★★★★☆ | Already supplies UK universities; fixed terms suit budget-cycle planning |
| Sport & leisure | ★★★★☆ | High-profile clients (Bolton Wanderers FC); handles large mixed-use sites |
| SMEs (general) | ★★★★☆ | Dedicated small-business tariff band; business-only focus |
| Micro-business | ★★★☆☆ | Works, but simpler single-fuel suppliers may quote sharper for very small usage |
Telnergy’s Take
What we like:
- True multi-utility supply — electricity, gas and water on one contract is a real differentiator, not marketing
- Business-only focus — no domestic book means systems and support are built for commercial customers
- 100% renewable electricity as standard at no premium, useful for straightforward ESG reporting
- In-house metering (Yü Smart) — less dependence on third-party metering agents, faster installs, accurate billing
- Financial substance — AIM-listed with published accounts, ~£129m gross cash, and a Shell-backed trading agreement; this is not a thinly capitalised challenger
- Rapid, funded growth — 43% meter-point growth in a year suggests strong commercial momentum
Watch points:
- Around 18% of Trustpilot reviews are one-star, most commonly citing billing disputes and contract-exit friction — read your contract terms closely, especially around renewal windows
- Growth at this pace can strain service teams; response times may vary during peak renewal seasons
- Renewable supply is REGO-backed rather than PPA-sourced — fine for most businesses, but check if your sustainability reporting requires more
- Out-of-contract and deemed rates are expensive (as with all suppliers) — diarise your renewal window
- Water supply availability depends on region — confirm your site is eligible before assuming full bundling
Is Yü Energy Right For You?
Consider Yü Energy if:

- Your priority is the longest possible track record — Yü Energy has supplied businesses only since 2014
